Australian author Mathew Reilly has once again delivered a book so full of action that it leaves the reader breathless. I’ve always enjoyed a fast paced adventure novel. Jurassic Park will always be one of my favorite books, and the book that inspired me to be a writer. To be able to imagine such ideas, to create an entire fictional world in which to house your readers – how incredible is that? Reilly also cites Jurassic Park as his favorite book, and in true dino-might style, this book is an homage to making fantastical fiction more believable with science and well-thought research.
I have just one teeny, tiny complaint. I’ve been a long time fan of Reilly’s, and while I still enjoy his work, my tastes have changed to include works written in a more literature based style. It is these books that I blame for not only making Reilly’s simplistic writing style glaringly apparent, but also at times annoying. I understand that simple sentence structure works best in quick paced action scenes, but some words/descriptions/replies were so overused that they detracted from the story. Other than that, this was a lovely little departure from reality. 4.5 stars, rounded up where necessary.
